Alexandria, Sydney – Sometimes I realise I really do live in a great part of Sydney when I can count a gem like this as my local Italian. I was upset to hear that Fratelli Fresh in Danks St was to be no more, mainly because they really did sell the best fresh tomatoes money could buy in their fruit and veggie market. But when I heard they were moving around the corner into the old Buckland Hotel site in Alexandria, delicious anticipation set in.

Haymarket, Sydney – Sydney has a wonderfully authentic Chinatown spreading through the inner city area of Haymarket, right up to Central station and all the way down to Darling Harbour. But for the uninitiated, it can be hard to find a reliable feed away from the tourist traps. The Chinese Noodle Restaurant is a bit of an insider’s secret for authentic and amazingly cheap food, with a northern Chinese-style bent.

Best run in Sydney – The Bay Run

Sure, you might be on holiday, but if you are a serious runner then slipping on your trainers is a good way to get to see Sydney at its best. While the views from the Bondi to Coogee cliff walk can’t be beat, and Centennial Park is a lovely central location for a quick run, if you want to do something a bit more serious that doesn’t involve maneuvering around scores of sightseers, then I think the Bay Run is a great option.
