Bat Country (Sydney)

For Randwick and Coogee dwellers alike there is much cause to celebrate with Bat Country opening its doors in ‘The Spot‘.  The Hunter S Thompson styled bar is a real treat for a suburb once devoid of a decent place to get a drink.

Sit out on the street across from the iconic Randwick Ritz, watching the hustle and bustle of the ever busy Spot or venture further into the saloon style bar with its exposed brick and quirky décor. The service is impeccable, friendly but not in your face.

The focus is on drinking. There is a range of inventive cocktails including “Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner” and “The Best Drink in the World” and for those who prefer a beer, Young Henry’s, amongst others on tap served in PINTS and a range of local and foreign bottled beer.

Out the back of the bar the kitchen crew look like they are enjoying themselves, helpfully testing the freshly made drinks whilst frantically preparing the food.  This comes in small bites to share; it’s a compact menu that covers off most food groups with something for everyone.

Tunes get cranked up as the night goes on, if you can’t quite work out who is being played you might find a clue in the 1970’s Rolling Stone magazines canvassing the walls of the toilet.
