The wait is over! Brenna has joined Sydney Urban Usher!
“Hi my name is Brenna! A born and bred Sydney girl, after studying and working overseas I returned to call the inner west home, living in Newtown and Enmore, and now getting about in Redfern/Alexandria. I love the ever-changing and diverse nature of this area, there is always somewhere new to try.
When I’m not wearing my white coat in the laboratory, or off hiking in the Blue Mountains, I can usually be found satisfying my coffee addiction in Redfern, enjoying a craft beer and pub meal in Newtown, or tootling on my bike amongst the bars and cafes of Surry Hills.”by
I’m London born and UK bred. But Perth is my real home, and has been for 4 years and counting. I love it here. I love the big skies, the warm weather and the little pockets of awesomeness that are everywhere in WA.
Perth is one of the last remaining isolated places on the planet. It is in a vacuum in terms of everything. We Perthians have to entertain ourselves and this has enabled our city to become a real hub in terms of creativity. The only problem is we are subtle. Our creativity and cool places are well-guarded secrets. You have to be ‘in the know’ to well… know. Hence the need for Urban Usher here in Perth”…by
Next up in the Meet the Ushers series is Brisbane Usher Janine:
City you’d live in other than Brisbane? “I’d live in Tel Aviv or more realistically, Sydney.”
Most bizarre job? “It’s not a bizarre job, but I did a few shifts of soul-destroying telemarketing and still have an immature antipathy towards phones.”
Most recent book? “I just finished reading Burial Rites by Hannah Kent and I’m mid-way through The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy. Both are completely excellent in as different ways as possible.”
Brisbane must-dos? “The bustling restaurant and entertainment districts are constantly evolving and excelling but it’s the quiet, out of the way gems that really excite me. To this end, check out The Bun Mobile, Gelateria Cremona, Crust and Co and Depo to see the less obvious but equally brilliant things happening in Brisbane.”
Your Ushering style? “You are very likely to find me settled into a quiet corner at any of the places I have written about.”
I am a born and bred Perth girl with a serious love for my beautiful home town. Described as just a big country town the reality is this city has so much to offer! Perth really does have the best of both worlds; pristine beaches and a bustling and dynamic city scape that is constantly evolving.
Perth has gone through a big transformation in recent years with the small bar revolution really taking off and this is what I am really passionate about…”
In a city as glamorous as Melbourne, it’s only fitting that we have an Usher as glamorous in Pauline! In this Meet the Ushers series, Pauline reveals her top tips for the Victoria capital:
Why Melbourne? “It is a city that rewards the curious, and curious I am! Melbourne is easy to get around, the people are beautifully grounded, the food and cultural scenes are ever-evolving, and you never feel like you’ve seen it all.”
Fav oz city other than Melbourne: “Sydney – the gorgeous harbour, the beaches, it has the wow factor.”
Cities I’ve lived in: “Brisbane, London, New York & Melbourne.”
Most bizarre job: “In my final year of uni I worked part-time for one of the big oil companies. They had me phoning up farmers all around Australia to tell them the tanks on their property weren’t up to scratch and we would no longer be delivering to them. These farmers relied on their weekly fuel delivery for all of their machinery, to run their whole operation, and here I was, the part-time uni student, delivering the shattering news.”
Must dos in Melbourne: “Get amongst the fit bunnies for an early morning jog around The Tan – it’s a Melbourne institution! Enjoy a European-inspired meal, like dinner at bustling Jim’s Greek Tavern, or delightful Italian at cosy Thirty Eight Chairs.”
Describe your Ushering style: “I won’t Usher the latest openings just because they’re the latest openings. I’ll tell you about the absolute standouts I’ve discovered; places you can rely on to experience Melbourne’s unique flair just like the locals do.”by
