Je Voudrais Un Pain Au Chocolat! by Amanda!

I did French in year 8 and “Je Voudrais Un Pain Au Chocolat” is about the only phrase I can remember. Thankfully this phrase has served me well. I have been lucky enough to visit France on two occasions and happily ate chocolate croissants for breakfast every day! No complaints from me!

Brisbane based French bakers and owners Lara Sample and Sebastien Pisasale have opened up their once wholesale only premises to the public. Tucked away in a back street in suburban Newmarket in what’s known affectionately by locals as “The Red Brick Bakery” is a tiny little nook selling divine pastries, sourdoughs, brioches and tarts.  My absolute favorite is their chocolate hazelnut croissant – the perfect balance of flavors, crispiness and softness.  I won’t lie to you – my mouth is watering just writing this!

I work nearby and colleagues and I often go for an afternoon jog around the area (OK so “often” might be exaggerating –  it’s really once a week if we’re lucky). For years we’ve been taunted with the delicious smells wafting from the bakery but never have we been able to taste their wares! Imagine our joy when we discovered we could purchase their tasty treats! Who needs jogging when you’ve got croissants?

You can place orders if you want to make sure they have something specific for you, otherwise I suggest you don’t get there too late – the word is out and the place is getting pretty busy. Just last week they also got an espresso machine so they can also now churn out Merlo coffees to accompany their delights.
