During the launch of my very first photographic exhibition I visited Double Roasters many times – whether to grab a caffeine hit, lunch on the go or for a more relaxed lazy brunch. Since then, it’s become one of my favourites!
Let me just say that this cafes got more than one thing right, its success is a testimony to overcoming the challenge of a location in the middle of a slightly soulless industrial Marrickville area (15 minutes walk from Sydenham station). Double Roasters does not shy away from its backdrop, it embraces the warehouse look creating a cool and modern urban ambiance. The surprise of finding such a gem here adds to the feeling of having discovered a winner. The locals feel the same way too, judging by how faithful they are to this place and how they rave on about it.
As the name suggests this place takes coffee seriously, serving amazing cappuccinos, selling their own blends of coffee (you can request tasting notes if you are sampling) and offering a grinding service that the locals take full advantage of. Molto buono.
The staff are just delightful – friendly and extremely competent, and even during busy weekend brunch times they manage to be attentive and in control. The food is great and certainly fresh – I am still dreaming of that banana and ricotta muffin!
If you want to escape the beaten track for a fantastic weekend brunch in a friendly and local environment, Double Roaster will not disappoint you.
Also… I was recently in Alexandria and saw a Double Roasters had popped up there too! Let me know what it’s like if you’ve been. Grazie!!
