Sandgate, Brisbane – Doug’s Seafood is a Brisbane institution. I doubt there’s a child who’s grown up on Brisbane’s north and not had fish n’ chips from Doug’s Seafood.
Doug’s has always been popular with my family. I would often come here with mum at sunset, get takeaway fish n’ chips and sit in the park opposite overlooking the shoreline while watch day turn into night.
Situated in the picturesque seaside suburb of Sandgate, Doug’s Seafood is popular with the locals and visitors alike. While some diners eat on the covered footpath outside Doug’s, the best option is get takeaway and sit in the park opposite which offers commanding views of the ocean. Eat in the evening when the tide is out and you’ll see people taking their dogs and even horses for a walk along the strangely picturesque mud flats which are revealed by low tide.
After eating, go for a walk along the footpath which takes you to a jetty at one end and the Sandgate pool at the other. If dining at dusk in the summer, don’t forget to put on some insect repellent for the a-little-to-friendly mosquitoes.
