Tucked in a side street just off Fitzroy’s main drag is this quaint little space that manages to capture the lovely, chilled out feeling of yesteryear while maintaining a thoroughly modern menu with an uber-local twist.
Uber-local? What!? I hear you say…Yep, venture beyond the 1965 Airstream van (which serves a mean burger), and you’ll find yourself in the Grub Hole
– a spacious greenhouse-café-ping pong hall, where half of your salad items are grown right in front of you. Which means the food is super fresh, super tasty and a little bit ooh-la-la (Duck & Pistachio Terrine, anyone?)
This is definitely the kind of place you want to while away a few hours on a lazy weekend, and the laid-back and relaxed staff reflects this. Their vibe is kind of infectious and you find yourself strangely relaxed and mesmerised by the light, the greenery and the colourful tablecloths featuring the likes of Barack Obama.
So grab some grub & coffee, sit back and relaaaax. Or if you’re the antsy type, settle in for a few games of Ping Pong to work up an appetite (thanks to Jess & Shell for the demo).
