Collingwood, Melbourne – It’s an American style burger joint with a name reminiscent of Bill Cosby’s 80s hit sitcom family, so you’d be forgiven for thinking of ugly jumpers every time you order a burger here. But in modern day Collingwood, this place is a local institution, and any ugly jumpers you see are worn in an ironic fashion by the hipsters that frequent this joint. I heard people raving about these burgers for a good year before I finally tried them, but it was worth the wait and now I am a fully converted Huxtaburger disciple.
It’s a simple concept: Burgers, chips and beers American home style, but made with quality local ingredients. The modest menu features burgers named after the Cosby family, but the store’s namesake burger is the original and the best. Seriously, it’s the best I’ve ever had – no joke!
This place gets pretty packed on any given night, resulting in lines out the door and waits of up to 25 minutes for your food, a testament to the quality and flavour of this stuff. When it smells as good as it does, that’s pretty hard to deal with, so for the impatient like myself I’d recommend calling ahead or downloading their handy App for ordering (or heading to the bigger CBD store).
The takeaway style store is suitably retro American burger joint, but not in a gaudy, OTT chain restaurant way. There are a few places to sit if you simply cannot wait to chow down, and the vibe is busy and happy. Just look for the ‘Cold Beer’ sign out the front as a shining beacon pointing towards the best burger of your life.
