Il Lido Canteen
Beautiful white sands, clear blue skies, crystal waters and stodgy fish and chips; this is description of Perth’s premier beach in Cottesloe.
The beach, loved by locals and tourists alike, is almost faultless until you begin the fruitless search for decent dining options. However, there has been one lonesome diamond in the rough for the past 10 years – Il Lido Italian Canteen.
Il Lido has bucked the trend of relying on the ocean views to earn a crust and instead banks its reputation on quality Italian food and drink.
My love affair began with a bang! Over the years the chemistry has come and gone (probably depending on the current head chef). But I am pleased to announce that this old friend is back to the glory days of YUM!
Octopus carpaccio, scallops with broad beans, beef carpaccio and the pork and fennel seed sausage with polenta are all phenomenal share plates. For mains the house made pasta is always popular or one of their chargrilled lamb options will leave you with a smile.
For the beer lovers, I’d suggest whetting your whistle with the White Rabbit Dark Ale… The mild ‘stoutiness’ combined with floral hops has a knack of pairing nicely with this Italian fare.
If only there were a couple more Il Lidos on this marvelous coastline of ours!
