Braddon, Canberra – Any well created Italian (i.e. women, wine, scooters, Nutella) will always have a pool of admirers far and wide. Shocking, I know. Italian and Sons is no exception!
My Canberra-based other half first selected this trattoria purely on its reputation, to celebrate the year since we met, at the Capital’s booze-fuelled, (but family-friendly) multicultural festival. On our first visit, we arrived at 8pm on a Monday night to a warm welcome in a crowded space which is both industrial and cosy.
The arrival of the shaved fennel and apple & celery entre signalled the start of two hours of edible bliss. The diavolo pizza has that satisfyingly crispy base, a generous cheese layer and a spicy jolt. Then came dessert time; the panna cotta and poached red wine pear is superb, but special mention goes to my partner’s choice of the gelati. I know it’s a ubiquitous treat, but this homemade offering is seriously moreish.
