Melbourne CBD – I am actually reluctant to give this place away but, truth be told, there is a greater good to buying your latte here that warrants the broadcast.

Kinfolk is a gorgeously rustic cafe situated at the end of Melbourne city’s main drag, Bourke Street. Ordinary cafe this most definitely is Kinfolk tablenot. It is much more – it is a social enterprise. For example, set beside the cash register are 4 big glass jars, each pertaining to a charity. Customers direct the cafe’s profits by placing coffee beans into their charity jar of choice. Last year, this little outfit funnelled $100,000 into both local and international projects.

But before you think a visit to Kinfolk is purely in the name of charity, allow me to paint a picture of what is, honestly, my favourite cafe in this fine city. Petite bouquets of wildflowers adorn each table, the menu is handwritten on a blackboard, and patrons sit at olden days school desks. You know what I’m talking about – cuteness central. Staffed mainly by volunteers, you won’t come across friendlier hospitality – the staff want to be here, they love the contribution they are making. It is incredibly heartwarming to experience.

Oh and by the way, the food is absolutely sensational. Salads are zingy, seasonal, wholesome, sandwiches are satisfying and homely, the coffee is divinely smooth, and the juices pack a fresh punch.

So, go on, treat yourself to Bourke Street’s best grub and, in doing so, know you are contributing to make the world a better place.
