Your caffeine fix, Henry Ford style
Soy mochaccino drinkers, look away now.
No soy, no decaf, no skinny milk, no chocolate atop your cappuccino. Tea what? Market Lane does one thing and one thing extremely well: straight up, delicious, single origin, pour over coffee. That’s right, here you can order any coffee, as long as it’s black (well, almost). Filtered water, organic, farmhouse milk; their ethos is as pure and unprocessed as possible. On premise roasting and only serving ‘in season’ beans, these guys are serious about coffee.
There are three locales, I’m most familiar with the one situated at the back of Prahran Market. Here you can have yourself a seat outside on a bench to soak up the morning sun, or nestle down at one of the rustic indoor tables. It is a revitalising break away from the busy marketplace.
If you are the kind of coffee drinker who likes to know where your beans have originated, and who grows them, any of the helpful staff would be happy to oblige you the information. Indeed, part of the rationale for removing soy milk from their menu was that it is a highly processed product that cannot be traced back to a single source. Lately I have been enjoying the Bolivian single estate roast, which has a distinct after taste – slightly bitter, but just how I like it.
For the sweet tooths, a small collection of individual sized artisan cakes and pastries is available. Merchandise is sold too, including pour over starter kits to recreate the magic at home, and the bee’s knees of coffee grinders. They also offer Brew Classes.
