Rhyl (Sydney)

RhylI’ve lived in Sydney for over 10 years and more than 2 years ago swapped the bright lights of the eastern suburbs for the northern beaches. When I first started hanging out here around 6 years ago (I met a local boy) there were really only two places to go: the Steyne, and the front bar of the Steyne.

This was devastating. My two great passions – besides the boy mentioned above – are small bars and regional Asian food. Oh and maybe a not-too-dry martini. Plus nose-to-tail eating. Definitely sustainable, local produce (and the chefs who use it) as well. I like to spread my passion around a bit, clearly. Before Sydney, I worked in hospitality in London for a few years and so swapping the Borough markets and Brick Lane for Manly Corso and Warringah Mall was a huge culture shock. Would I ever eat well again?

Luckily, things have been on the up and the Manly/Freshie /Dee Why scene has exploded at a rate even I struggle to keep up with. But I’m game if you are…
