A thousand wines’ is a winner!
In my fist few months living in Sydney, I went to Mille Vini again and again. Meaning ‘a thousand wines’, what keeps me coming back to Mille Vini even now is not just the very cute waiter. It’s also the brilliant Italian food and wine, the mood-setting ambience and the people watching on Crown Street.
My first experience of Mille Vini was a Friday night after work – my friend and I stopped in for a cocktail on the way to dinner in Bondi. We sat on the bar stools facing Crown Street where we caught up on everything, and watched the world go by.
After perusing the food menu (and once I had got through looking at all of the amazing wine options), I decided I would visit again to try their delightful-sounding Italian tapas. So I did a couple of weeks later. This time it was a Sunday evening – my friends and I shared some tapas and a bottle of the 2009 Pater Frescobaldi Sangiovese (bliss). Here’s my hot tip: when you go for dinner make sure you get the delicious Arancini mix veggies, saffron and mozzarella rice balls crumbed and lightly fried served with a spicy sauce.
I went back to Mille Vini once again but this time to try some pasta. I’m a massive fan of duck dishes, so I ordered the fresh tagliatelle with duck ragu, which was perfect as it had lots of duck, a rich tomato sauce and the pasta was al dente. I cannot wait until the next time I visit – breakfast will be my next reason for going again (so I hope the cute waiter also works morning shifts!).
