You’d be forgiven for conjuring up images of floral plastic table cloths and gaudy condiment baskets when you hear the words ‘cheap feed’. That’s OK, you just haven’t been to Naked for Satan yet. And if the name doesn’t at least pique your interest, then you’re probably not adventurous enough to hang out there. Just sayin’.
No, you do not have to get naked. No, you do not need to be a satanic devil worshipper (literal little fellow, aren’t you?) All you need is a few dollars and a taste for little food. And maybe vodka.
Naked for Satan comes in two parts: a street level bar that serves up booze and Pinxtos, and the rooftop Naked in the Sky, which is a more formal bar and restaurant affair, with sweeping views over Fitzroy and out to the city. I can only speak for the atmosphere of the upstairs bit because I haven’t ever actually eaten up there, but the vibe is chilled, the view fabulous and the food smells (and looks) great.
Back downstairs in the bar part, reminiscent of those little bars in the side streets of Barcelona, grab a plate of pintxos (that’s pronounced ‘Pinchos’ to the uninitiated) and hold on to your toothpicks to tally your bill. If you’re there between Sunday and Wednesday, each item is only $1! But buyer beware…there are so many good ones to try that it’s easy to lose track and blow $15-20 on these little babies! Totally worth it though…
There is a range of paraphernalia related to local history to keep your eyes interested, which ties into the backstory behind the bar’s name. The story may or may not be Fitzroy urban legend – you can decide that for yourself.
