Martha’s Vineyard meets Brisbane: Nantucket Kitchen and Bar

Indooroopilly, Brisbane – Brisbane currently has an obsession with Americano food. There have been numerous openings of places doing ribs and sliders over the past year. Few of them are surviving long term and none of them do classy Americano. Nantucket Kitchen and Bar (NKB) have carved a niche out for themselves. Holding all the style and elegance of the cape, NKB are set to thrive and grow if their continuing and mounting popularity is anything to go by.

With trademark Cape Cod styling matched with a well thought out menu – NKB is a great place to visit any time of day. Serving breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner and cocktails NKB have got you covered! I’ve tried their breakfast and lunch options and have found both experiences pleasant. I’m always a sucker for a good bagel and enjoyed their breakfast bagel (with the addition of Brie what’s not to love?) and my hubby always enjoys their big breakfast (although finds their relish a tad sweet – how very old man of him!). I’ve eaten lunch there with friends and my mum and between us we’ve tried all of their salads. On a hot Brisbane day, the welcome freshness of a good salad cannot be under estimated. I’ve also enjoyed their mac n cheese, corn bread and sliders. These were side dishes / starters but were all extremely generous serves so I could have made lunch of the mac n cheese or sliders alone!

Our nearly 10-month-old baby has accompanied us on all visits to NKB. I have a moment where I feel it all looks to nice to take a baby along, however they’ve always been welcoming and accommodating of the wee one and have nicer than average high chairs too (sometimes I fear we will all contract some vile illness from the high chairs provided at cafes!).

If there is one potential downfall of NKB it’s the location. Westfield Indooroopilly have recently renovated and added a classy new side to the old haunt (both my husband and I have fond memories of skulking around there in our school uniforms trying to dodge teachers who’d reprimand our presence). NKB is outside of the center but attached none-the-less. I guess it means there is undercover parking on site and you can fulfill you need for shopping or a movie immediately prior or after if you must!

They’ve recently opened up a smaller venture down near the train station called Nantucket Express. This creates a more traditional diner vibe being done across Brisbane and serves up burgers, hot dogs and shakes – I’m yet to try it but am sure it will be worth a visit!
