A salad fit for a king
Situated on the banks of the Brisbane River in the newly developing Northshore Hamilton, Brisbane’s plan for their largest urban renewal precinct, this café offers a tranquil and picturesque outlook for a relaxed breakfast or lunch. The site offers a large expanse of dedicated riverfront in what is planned to become a mix of parkland, community space, residential and commercial properties, quite close to the Brisbane Cruise Terminal at Portside Wharf. I have dined happily there for both business and pleasure; as well, as the café caters for functions, a friend’s daughter is to be married on the ‘beach’ outside soon, with the reception both inside and outside on the grassy verges. With dimmed outside lighting, moored yachts bobbing on the water and the lights of the city reflected in the river, it should be a magical venue.
My favourite meal for lunch has always been a Caesar salad and I am continually in search of an authentically good one, so I am known to have tried these in many parts of the world! I am very pleased to relate that the Caesar salad with seared tiger prawns (you can also have it with Cajun chicken fillet) that Northshore produces is absolutely the best I have had anywhere! The herb crumbed local fish fillets served with a salad, crunch fries and chipotle aioli is not half-bad either! I have not been here for breakfast but am told that the omelette with asparagus and crab is divine.
If you are visiting, the café is adjacent to the Northshore Hamilton Citycat terminal for a river trip from the city; there are racks outside for bikes and tethering dogs, and if you have kids, there is a little river beach and lots of grass for them to run about on while you enjoy that glass of wine!
