There is something wonderfully unique about the mix of a granny chic aesthetic and the clean, fresh tastes of Vietnam. I have passed the window of Nourishing Quarter on a few occasions and thought it looked like a quirky tea house; little did I know it had much more than tea on offer.
So for the meat lovers out there this may be the time to tune out, as this is strictly vegetarian fare, gluten and dairy-free at that. On the night in question, we chose to share our meals but you can just as easily go solo. Our particular favourites were the dumplings that had a melt-in-your-mouth quality and the Pho, so incredibly rich in taste and without a cow in sight.
None of our dining crew is vegetarian (although two of us are reformed pescatarians) and we all found our meals delicious and delightfully innovative. I am getting used to seeing quinoa on menus but buckwheat and purple sweet potato noodles and ancient Ama-Noa grains are certainly new ones for me.
Nourishing Quarter has a very warm vibe; no doubt due to the array of antique furnishings, including some fabulous side-board action, old honours boards and various pictures of a much younger British monarch smiling down on you (yes I did say smiling).
If you are looking for something both delicious and healthy, look no further than this charming establishment on the ever evolving Cleveland St.
