Perth’s best wagyu burger – Sentinel Bar and Grill (Perth)

Perth CBD – It’s a big call, but I’m going to stick my neck out and say this is THE best burger in Perth. All culinary experts and food bloggers nationally have just gasped at my notion of such wanton abandon!! But the wagyu burger found at Sentinel Bar and Grill has been well and truly tested by yours truly over the years…. And it never disappoints.

Forget the propensity to pick up the finely polished silverware found at a classy joint like Sentinel – just grab the sucker with both hands and sink your teeth into an incredibly juicy waygu beef patty served medium-rare on a homemade brioche bun with the perfect balance of pickle, lettuce and tomato. I’ve tested the validity of my burger glorification with numerous people – friends, chefs, politicians, businessman – and they all agree; this is one fine specimen.

Sentinel is a modern, warm steakhouse that generally provides quality, fine dining service. They serve more than just good burgers too. The menu varies from house-made pasta varieties, to seafood, to the staple steak offerings, including a 350-day grain fed Margaret River wagyu rump – also highly recommended. But for all these culinary skills demonstrated by the chef, it’s hard to bi-pass the burger that appears to be modeled on the wagyu burger from Café Vue in Melbourne (a creation of Shannon Bennett).

Sentinel has an outstanding beer and wine selection to keep you entertained no matter what you eat. If you do give the burger a go, give me your feedback on Twitter @beersfood – In my opinion the only other burger that comes close can be found at Neil Perry’s Rockpool.
