A little while ago, a Manly-based friend and I were enjoying our third bottle of vino on a spontaneous Sunday evening.
“Shoul we’ave jussonemore and then goome?” I asked, draining the dregs of my glass.
“YEA, lesssgo Belgravecarttel!” She replied. You can see why we’re mates.
That was my first trip to the BC – although I have walked down that street literally hundreds of times, it was the first time I’d ever noticed the tiny bar of exposed brick and timber, lit up with fairy lights. Inside, the owners pressed beautiful cut-glass flutes of champagne into our hands and chatted to us like old friends. I had the best time ever, until the next morning when I wanted to blow my own head off.
Anyway it was the beginning of my great love affair with BC – I’ve been back for breakfasts, lunches, after work drinks and romantic dinners for 2. Breakfasts run from their specialty jaffles, through to a winter-busting plate of mushrooms with herbs & feta on sourdough. Dinners are perfect for sharing – and unlike a lot of places, the portions are small enough that even just a couple if people can try quite a variety of dishes, which skew mainly rustic Italian. Clearly, I think you’ll have a lot of fun working your way through the compact cocktail and wine lists.
