Paddington, Brisbane – Our first visit to Ruby Cafe in Paddington (towards the Suncorp Stadium end) consisted in muffled sighs of pleasure while reading the menu, exaggerated eating noises to indicate pleasure at one’s food and every now and then someone chanting “ruby ruby ruby ruby ruby ruby” a la the chorus of the Kaiser Chiefs song Ruby.

St Lucia, Sydney – My how my old University has changed – not surprising given that I graduated in 2001 (oh my goodness could it really be that long ago?). When a friend recently suggested we catch up for brunch at one of the café’s at the University of QLD I was a bit of a skeptic – surely there were better things than brekky at Uni? Happily I was proven wrong and am now a repeat customer!
