The Breakfast at the End of the Universe
Ask a local*, and most would opine Sydney ‘ends’ at Palm Beach, although at over 40km from the Sydney CBD and little in the way of public transport other than the famous L90 bus, getting here is a little more labour-intensive than your usual weekend coffee run.
Aside from the fantastically scenic car trip along the northern beaches – Boathouse rewards the patient with a gorgeous rustic setting on the water, hearty breakfasts and lunches (skewed towards veggie and seafood fare, including a fish and chips with a cult following) and lovely staff. The only bummer? The word about this place got out long ago and nowadays to score a coveted communal long table in the sun, you have to avoid peak eating times. Although in the colder months, the crowds die down substantially and the coronas go down just as well.
*(Ask an actual Palm Beach local, and they’d opine Palmy annexed itself from the rest of Sydders long ago – but that’s another story)
