Ocean views wave in
Moffat Beach, in Caloundra, just an hour or so drive north of Brisbane, tends to be a little quieter than the more popular Caloundra central area. It’s a beautiful beach tucked in a small inlet, which boasts small waves suitable for longboarding and the now fashionable stand-up paddle boarding. A shady, well-established and elevated park lines the beach giving full views out to the ocean.
But, the real point is, a trip to Moffat’s is a must and is not complete without a morning or arvo cuppa from The Pocket Espresso Bar.
Overlooking picturesque Moffat Beach this little hole-in-the-wall coffee joint has Melbourne’s influence written all over it. Despite being reminiscent of Australia’s laneway city, this quirky and groovy espresso bar works well in this seaside community.
It’s open and airy with seating spilling from inside to out. An eclectic mix of artwork adorns the walls, keeping you interested while you wait for your order (happy to report that there are no long delays). The toy skull with a moustache is but one of the curious decos that we had a good laugh about on our recent visit.
But the aim is to enjoy a beverage, and that you will. Campos coffee beans are used which are a fine brew indeed – never fails to satisfy the caffeine need. Slushies and frappes are also available which can be the perfect coffee alternative on a hot summer’s day. Small meals, such as paninis, and sweets are on offer to accompany your drink of choice.
All up, the coffee hits the spot and is sweetened by the beach view you only wish you could indulge in everyday! The locals have it lucky.
