Hidden Rooftop CBD Bar

The Rook is an awesome bar and restaurant on York Street in Sydney city. This is one of those blink and you’ll miss it type of places as there is limited signage. So I’m sure many have just missed it – although judging by its popularity, word has got around! Look for the Cambridge College International Australia sign and then head up the office elevator. Oh, and as there is no indication of what level The Rook is on, so make sure you press ‘R’ – for Rook presumably,

The Rook has a warehouse vibe. Cool, casual and definitely funky. To me, it’s very Melbourne meets New York. One side of the venue is the bar, where exotic cocktails rock the house. The bar has an open air roof and is perfect for an after work drink (or two).

My little tip, if you can’t get a table or feel too lazy to stand, head over to the restaurant area and enjoy the table service and the extensive wine/beer/cocktail menu. By this point you might be feeling slightly peckish, and this would be a good time to start on some onion rings. Big, Juicy and crumbly these things are impressive!!

The menu at The Rook is minimal but what they do, they do well. I’ve never had the lobster (one focus of the menu) but the burgers are fantastic! Another little tip – ladies and those with a smaller appetite, you can easily share a burger between two.

The Rook is a great option for an after-work drink, especially on these lovely summer days. Come up for a cocktail, indulge in the lobster and have one of the ‘aha’ I’m in one of the best cities in the world moments!
