Melbourne bohos are onto something – by Pauline
For a real slice-of-Melbourne-life, head to Vegie Bar, a lively restaurant serving contemporary vegetarian fare, including raw food, living food, gluten-free and vegan options. Located in Fitzroy, an inner northern suburb that oozes bohemian charm, this place is not just for vegos. Once you experience the fresh, flavourful food, you’ll very easily calm any carnivorous cravings.
Start with a drink in the outdoor terrace area out back – you may have no choice if you turn up after about 6.30pm – the dining area gets packed and you may have to wait for a table.
Patience is duly rewarded though. An inventive menu, great value for money and a homely feel, Vegie Bar has it all. Popular dishes include a very plentifully portioned burrito, there are also superb noodle dishes, stir fries, dhal, pastas, falafel, pizzas, not to mention puddings and desserts.
Be sure to catch the true charm of this Fitzroy stalwart before too many yuppies catch on!
